Another 481 COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths, 16K vaccinations were reported in Utah on Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 481 on Tuesday, with five more deaths and 16,373 vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The Department of Health estimates that there are now 11,668 active COVID-19 cases in Utah. According to the Department of Health, the running average of seven days of positive cases per day is now at 492. The positive test rate per day for the period using the “people over people” method is now 8.3%. The positive test rate per day of seven days, calculated using the ‘test over test’ method, is now 4.1%.

There are 171 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 55 in intensive care. About 67% of the beds in Utah’s intensive care units are now occupied, including 68% of the ICU beds in the 16 referral hospitals in the state, according to the Department of Health. About 46% of the non-ICU hospital beds are now inhabited in Utah.

A total of 1,027,073 doses of vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 1,010,700 on Monday. A total of 679,409 Utahns have now received at least one vaccine dose and 372,564 have been fully vaccinated. A total of 1,213,260 doses of vaccines were delivered to Utah, the Department of Health reported.

The new numbers point to a 0.1% increase in positive cases since Monday. Of the 2,298,572 people so far tested for COVID-19 in Utah, 16.5% tested positive for the disease. The number of tests started since the pandemic is now 4,029,685, up 15,610 since Monday. Of those, 5,476 were tests of people who had not been tested for COVID-19 before, according to the Department of Health.

The five deaths reported on Tuesday include:

  • A Salt Lake County woman who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to the hospital when she died
  • A Summit County man over the age of 85 who was not hospitalized when he died
  • A Utah County woman who was between the ages of 65 and 84 and was not hospitalized when she died
  • A Washington County man over the age of 85 who was a resident of a long-term care facility
  • A Washington County man between the ages of 65 and 84 was a resident of a long-term care facility

The total number Tuesday in Utah confirmed 379,081 cases, with 15,167 hospitalizations and 2,032 total deaths due to the disease. A total of 365,381 Utah COVID-19 cases are now considered recovery, according to the Department of Health.

The Utah government, Spencer Cox, will deliver a pandemic update at 10 a.m. Thursday during its monthly news conference with PBS Utah.
