Cleveland Browns 2021 Free Agency Tracker

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The NFL negotiation period kicked off Monday, and the first few hours were inconvenient for the Browns.

They offered the receiver KhaDarel Hodge and expressed interest in a few players but did not immediately agree with a big name free agency. However, there is still a lot of time. Teams cannot close the deals before the league year opens at 4pm on Wednesday, and a lot will happen every now and then.

Meanwhile, in the first few hours, some big frontrunners flew off the market. Shaquil Barrett signed with the Bucs again for $ 72 million for four years, and Romeo Okwara signed with the Lions again for $ 39 million for three years. Former Ravens edge-rusher Matt Judon has agreed with the Patriots on a four-year value of $ 56 million, including $ 32 million during the first two years.

Browns Tender WR KhaDarel Hodge

The Browns have denied Hodge the first-ever tender, a league source told cleveland.com. This is the lowest of the four tenders. It is worth $ 2.133 million in 2021 if they do not agree on a multi-year agreement before then. The Browns could also release Hodge if they have a surplus of receivers.

The Browns can match any offer, but will not receive compensation if someone else signs it.

What that means for hanging free agent Rashard Higgins remains to be seen. The Browns want to sign Higgins for a one-year deal, a source told cleveland.com, but he may get a better deal. If he can possibly establish himself for life, he will have to accept the agreement.

Browns express interest in Saints edge rusher Trey Hendrickson

Cleveland.com has been reporting for weeks that Hendrickson is one of the pass rushers on the Browns radar in the free agency.

Shortly after the negotiation period began on Monday afternoon, NFL reporter Josina Anderson tweeted that the Browns, Vikings and Jets all showed interest.

They are not the only ones. A source told cleveland.com that “many teams” called Hendrickson during the first two hours of the negotiation period. It’s no wonder why. A third-round pick in 2017, he tied Aaron Donald for second in the NFL with 13.5 pockets in 2020.

Browns reportedly expresses interest in Rams S John Johnson

The Browns on Monday showed interest in Rams’ fifth-year safety, John Johnson III, a third-round pick in 2017 from Boston College, according to CBS Sports Senior NFL Reporter Jonathan Jones.

The Lions, Eagles and Jaguars are also interested, according to Jones.

The Browns are definitely looking for depth in the secondary series, and could sign one or two free agents. I wrote that Brian Pool, the corner of Brian, is on their radar, and there are others. The Browns are counting on safety Grant Delpit (broken Achilles) and cornerback Greedy Williams (nerve damage in his shoulder) to start for them in 2021, but they will still contribute to the stack.
