Many of GOP hope Trump loses in court go away, says former board member Miles Taylor

Miles Taylor, a former chief of staff of the Department of Homeland Security in the Trump administration, said on Saturday that many in the GOP hope that Donald Trump will lose in future court battles and continue from the party.

On MSNBC, Taylor said he would not be surprised if Trump faces criminal charges in 2021, amid an ongoing criminal investigation in New York City and Georgia.

“My prediction for this year is going to be that the Donald Trump who wants to win, win, win, is on the verge of losing, losing, losing,” the former government official said.

“He loses in public opinion court and he will soon lose in the House of Commons if charges are filed against him. Many Republicans actually hope that will happen so they can continue with Donald Trump.”

Taylor’s remarks come as Cyrus Vance, Manhattan’s district attorney, conducts a comprehensive criminal investigation into investigating money allegedly made to women associated with Trump, and whether his company manipulated the value of assets for loans and tax profits .

On February 25, Vance’s investigation intensified after District Attorney obtained Trump’s tax records. The Supreme Court had earlier allowed the former president’s request to block the summonses for his tax returns twice.

Along with Vance’s investigation, New York Attorney General Letitia James is also conducting a civil investigation into the Trump organization, focusing on tax deductions and write-offs.

The former president is also facing charges in Georgia for trying to undermine the outcome of the 2020 presidential election by putting officials under pressure to find evidence of voter fraud.

Taylor, a fierce critic of the former president who wrote an explosive New York Times essay in 2018 which sets out an internal “resistance” within his government, added on Saturday that he believes Trump has committed numerous crimes.

“If you look at Donald Trump and his career long enough, you will not see that he is breaking the law, but you will see that he is setting the law on fire,” Taylor said.

“This is a man who has an almost clinical addiction to misconduct, whether it’s cheated on his golf game or government fraud … would it surprise anyone that he’s trying to cheat his tax returns?” he added.

Since leaving the White House on January 20, the former president has lived in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach and has maintained a significant presence in the IDP.

During a fiery speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last month, Trump hinted at the possibility of a 2024 presidential election after falsely claiming that President Joe Biden lost the 2020 election.

“Actually, you know they just lost the White House, I might even decide to beat them a third time,” Trump said at the time.
