The University of Duke has announced that all Duke undergraduate students must stay from midnight Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday, March 21st.
Duke says the goal of the stay-at-home period is to stop the spread of COVID among the undergraduate population as quickly as possible.
“This action is needed to contain the rapidly rising number of COVID cases among Duke undergraduate students, driven primarily by students attending selective life group recruitment parties. Over the past week, more than 180 students have been in isolation for a positive COVID. “19 tests, and an additional 200 students are in quarantine due to contact detection. This is by far the largest number of positive tests and quarantines of one week since the start of the pandemic,” Duke said in a statement.
The University says it will continue to monitor the situation and share an update on Thursday, March 18th.
