Iron worker seriously injured after being infected at LIRR station

A female iron worker was seriously injured while working on a Long Island Rail Road project at Mineola station on Saturday morning, the MTA said.

The unidentified worker was part of a crew building a pedestrian bridge at the station when a crane hit a high-voltage vehicle around 9:30 p.m. The contact created an arch to the bridge and injured the woman, who was a contract worker. to the MTA.

She was rushed to hospital in critical condition, the agency said.

‘We have fully investigated this incident and are reviewing all safety protocols and procedures on site. All work on the project has been stopped pending the investigation, ”said Janno Lieber, president of MTA Construction & Development.

It was the second incident at the station since Monday when a crew member was trapped in a signal tower while a building was demolished and partially collapsed, according to a Newsday report which said no one was injured.

The construction is part of a project to add an extra lane and make other improvements between Floral Park and Hicksville.
