Marcus Rashford directs appeal for alleged kidnapping and murder of Sarah Everard

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has urged men to play a bigger role in helping women feel safe.

Rashford took to social media to express his condolences to the family of Sarah Everard.

Everard went missing on March 3 and Metropolitan Police confirmed Friday that human remains in the bushveld in Ashford, Kent, belong to the 33-year-old marketing chief.

Rashford responded to the ‘heartbreaking’ news by describing it as something ‘should never have happened’ and told male followers to play an important role.

“It’s just sad, I’m sorry,” he tweeted.

“It should never have happened. Men we need to play a role.

‘To listen, protect and allow women to feel safe at any time of the day. I have sisters, nieces … just awful. I send my love to Sarah’s family. ”

Rashford received an MBE last year after his successful campaign over free school supplies during the coronavirus pandemic.

The 23-year-old continued to use his platform to promote positive change in society among his 4.2 million Twitter followers.

Rashford missed Manchester United’s clash with AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night due to an ankle injury.

He limped into the derby in Manchester last weekend, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not rule him out of the clash with West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“He’s a fit boy, he’s athletic, recovering well. We did not have too much reason to let him rest, ‘Solskjaer told MUTV.

“He got a knock on his ankle that made it impossible for him to be part of the group, hopefully for the weekend, but we do not know.”
