A pair of handcuffs hold themselves together to work through problems in the three-month relationship

This handcrafted honey literally became each other’s old ball and chain.

A back-and-forth couple in Ukraine have vowed to strengthen their relationship by tying themselves together in a three-month experiment that has apparently attracted the attention of their homeland.

Alexandr Kudlay and Viktoria Pustovitova tied themselves together on Valentine’s Day in an unusual attempt to work out their problems.

“We were apart once or twice a week,” Kudlay, 33, told Reuters. “When Vika said during another fight that we should go apart, I replied ‘Then I will attach you to myself.’

Although his 28-year-old girlfriend was initially missed and hung up the phone, she later warmed up the idea and agreed to let it go. The duo now do everything together, from getting ready every morning in their Kharkiv apartment to eating breakfast side by side. If they buy in the grocery store, they even keep the same basket.

“I love him, so I decided to do it,” Pustovitova said of her change of heart.

Nearly a month after they were handcuffed, the couple said tensions are still rising, but they have found productive new ways to work through their spats.

“Fights between us have not disappeared, we are still fighting,” Kudlay said. “But when we approach a dead end and there is no understanding between us, we stop talking instead of packing our things and walking away.”

According to the outlet, Kudlay and Pustovitova gained thousands of new fans on Instagram while sharing their connected lives, and even appeared in Ukrainian chat shows to tell more about their experience.

Although the couple say they take turns using the toilet – one will wait outside the bathroom, with their hand inwards – it was not immediately clear how any party would do their job at work during the day. Kudlay is an online car salesman, while Pustovitova works as a beautician.
