The appropriate speedrun category “Blue Yourself” has simple rules: get a blue shell, blow yourself up in single player mode. It does not matter if the computer hits you with a shell – it should be you. It also does not count if you are just caught in the radius of a shell targeting another character.
The joke category seems to have been fairly active over the past two weeks, with most records set over the past few days. On Thursday, a brand new world record was set by SkillozGaming, which made Blue blue in just 39 seconds. As expected, Link has to drag far behind the competition to even get a chance at the track. Once it’s in place, Link throws the shell and quickly elevates himself to first place. Voila. He blue himself. And on Mario Day too – the record was dated March 10th. Is nothing sacred anymore?
