The following post contains spoilers for WandaVision, until the season’s finals.
For all the questions we answered WandaVisionseason finale – and there were many! – other aspects of Episode 9 made us feel like a suddenly self-conscious White Vision: we ask for effect.
In the last episode of the Disney + series, we learned, among other things, the true identity of Evan Peters ‘”Fietro”, Agatha Harkness’ and Tyler Hayward’s respective endgame, and whether a famous face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe would appear for the last delivery. (Answer: No!)
But even after the Hex came down and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was recorded in a post-credit scene, there was still a lot to reflect on the show’s conclusion – and we went straight to the source for insight.
Below, WandaVision director Matt Shakman, co-executive producer Mary Livanos and lead writer / showrunner Jac Schaeffer ask us questions about details big (wait, where does White Vision go?) and small (is the beekeeper OK ?!). Read on for their thoughts:
IS WHITE VISION NOW THE REAL VISION? AND WHY DIDN’T HE GO TO WANDA? | After the philosophical discussion of the two Visions, Hex Vision restored the original data of White Vision so that White Vision could remember its relationship with the destruction of Wanda and the Mind Stone. “I’m vision,” White Vision said, before flying away … somewhere … and disappearing for the rest of the finale. But is he actually the original Vision again, now that its data has been traced?
“I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities in the future to fully answer that,” Livanos said. “We find it very convincing that he does get the data back. Whether this makes him a complete and complete vision of him is left unanswered, but it is probably safe to say that he still has to do growth. We will see what the future holds. ”(En because White Vision’s data recovery does not make him quite the same man he used to be. Livanos says this may explain why he did not immediately fly over to Wanda and help Agatha. “We’ll just have to see where he appears next time and what his journey is,” she shares.
WHY DIDN’T THE DOCTOR APPEAR? | Amidst the unbridled fan base about which MCU or X mans characters might make a cameo, Benedict Cumberbatch’s time – consuming character has always made the most sense; the Sorcerer Supreme has even dropped the name WandaVision‘s finale, which makes his eventual absence from even the post-credit scenes a headache.
“There were a lot of conversations. We had discussions with the team Strange 2, and that’s how it all happened, ”Schaeffer tells us when asked if Cumberbatch’s appearance is wash the initial plan that simply could not come together. She is even stricter about whether the WandaVision team reached out to Cumberbatch’s camp to make it happen and told us, ‘I can’t talk about that kind of thing.’
WAS DARCY A BIGGER FINAL ROLE? | Kat Dennings’ funny astrophysicist delivered exactly one line in Episode 9 – “Have fun in prison!” she told Hayward after boning his vehicle – then he was conspicuously missing in a middle credit scene that apparently must included her. According to Livanos’ knowledge, “I do not think [Dennings’ absence] had anything to do with anything related to COVID, ”although WandaVision‘s last production days did mean pandemic. “We like Darcy as this elusive, crazy character, and I find it particularly pleasing that Darcy can pop up anywhere in the universe.”
WHAT GOES WITH MONICA AND CAPTAIN WONDER? | Per Livanos, the apparent friction between Monica and Carol Danvers – which was strongly indicated during Episode 4 – was not necessarily intended during WandaVision‘s run. With Monica popping up next Captain Marvel 2, Confirms Livanos, “We’ve been indicating that there’s a bit of tension for her and Captain Marvel in the future, but we’m excited to investigate at another time.”
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRADE ACTORS? | Wanda’s commitment to sitcom life extends to WandaVision‘s ads, which Shakman confirms wash Wanda’s creation along with the rest of the broadcast. “Wanda gave almost everyone in Westview roles,” he explains. ‘Those two actors, or residents of the city, that we chose to be in the commercials were meant to be the same as all the other things – that they euked through time, just like Wanda’s car a red Buick is what repeats through time. Wanda portrayed these two as her commercial actors, and they appear in every episode, and they are part of the broadcast. ”
And while the commercials were in part for entertaining viewers (and a fun Easter egg hunt for MCU fans), they were “also a repository for Wanda’s unconscious,” Shakman says. “She’s putting something in these ads that is indicative of some of the bigger themes in the series.”
AND THE CUP? | Since the commercial stars are presumably safe now that Westview is disconnected, what should we make of the SWORD operator who became a beekeeper when he pierced the barrier? Wanda ‘washed back’ his ominous appearance in Episode 2 and he was never mentioned or seen again. Is he trapped in some Westview purgatory?
“It was so fantastic to see the world’s reaction to the beekeeper,” Livanos admits laughing. ‘You know, at the end of the show, Wanda takes down his Hex to save the people of Westview from the trauma she’s projected. Hopefully he’s right. We all hope for the best for him. ”
