The body material showed Johnny Damon, a former Major League baseball player, claiming to have been targeted by police in February on suspicion of DUI because of his support for former President Donald Trump.
The footage, released Tuesday, shows Damon and his wife, Michelle Mangan-Damon, showing their slogan “Blue Lives Matter” on their license plate, with Damon saying, “Guys, we’re all for the police.”
Damon has been a longtime supporter of Trump, appearing with him at an Orlando rally before the 2016 election day. The Washington Post. Damon, an Orlando resident, was pulled over in the early morning hours of Feb. 19 in Windermere, Fla.
At one point during the stop, Damon says, “I know people are trying to target me because I’m a Trump supporter.
An officer replies, “I don’t think it has anything to do with it,” to which Damon responds, “Yes, it does. ‘
Damon’s blood alcohol content was reportedly 0.30, almost four times the legal limit of .08. Damon agrees to a field sobriety test, but stumbles during walking exercises and could not follow a red light with his eyes while keeping his head still.
Damon is accused of resisting a non-violent officer and said he was driving under the influence of alcohol and driving a stop sign. Mangan-Damon was also arrested and charged with an officer and resisting violence.
Damon played 18 years in MLB for seven different teams. He was a two-time All-Star and won two World Series championships – along with the Red Sox in 2004 and the Yankees in 2009. He last appeared in a game in 2012 and completed his career with 2,769 hits.
