The Department of Health has tracked down community distribution in the state of New Mexico and is investigating cases without any known exposure. The agency reports that given the contagious nature of the virus it is likely that other residents are infected but still need to be tested or positively confirmed. With that end in sight, all New Mexicans are instructed to stay at home except for outings that are absolutely essential for health, safety and well-being. These additional restrictions have been put in place to aggressively restrict person-to-person contact and to ensure that distribution is mitigated. New Mexicans are strongly encouraged to limit travel to only what is necessary for health, safety and well-being.

The New Mexico Department of Health conducted active investigations into the positive patients, which included contact detection and swabs of symptomatic individuals who had contact with the positive cases.

Every New Mexican must work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. Stay home, especially if you are sick. Wear a mask or face mask when in public and around others.

New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, cold fever, recurrent chills, muscle aches, headache, throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea and / or loss of taste or smell should immediately healthcare provider or call the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline (1-855-600-3453).

The Department of Health strongly encourages the following groups to be tested:

  • Symptomatic people who have COVID-19 symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, recurrent chills, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea and / or loss of taste or smell;
  • Asymptomatic people who have close contact or are domestic members of people in their infectious period who have already tested positive for the coronavirus;
