When the CDC issued its latest set of pandemic guidelines, many people were disappointed. The revised rules were particularly desirable over the reopening of schools, which makes the theoretical unions falter far too much to keep them far into the future, or to virtual learning instead of going back to the classrooms. Whereupon dr. Fauci and the leaders of the CDC probably did not count on being challenged based on the science they believe they trust to lead them. And the challenge in question does not come from armchairs either. Dr. Tara O. Henderson, dr. Monica Gandhi, dr. Tracy Beth Hoeg and dr. Daniel Johnson is four of the doctors who conducted one of the most important studies on the piscemie in Wisconsin. The CDC calls it their job. . Now they have published an editorial criticizing the health agency for misinterpreting the data and asking that all schools be reopened for personal classes. (USA Today)
The recent guidelines for reopening schools introduced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are an example of fears that affect science and harmful policies and lead to misinterpretation. In the US, 50% of schools are closed and more only partially. President Biden is launching a campaign indicating that science and data will guide its policies. As we approach the anniversary of the first COVID abolition, this approach is needed more than ever before, especially for schools.
As in so many states, schools in California and Illinois are hampered by the CDC leadership. The guidelines do not take into account the data we have about low disease transmission in schools. Although the guidelines mention the work carried out in our Wisconsin districts and published in the MMWR, the data and new analyzes of the data set are also not taken into account. Keeping schools closed or even partially closed, based on what we are now unfounded, harms children and has become a human rights issue.
Ai! It had to sting a little.
The doctors go from there to beat the CDC with an avalanche of facts now clearly established. They first note that children are least likely to carry COVID badly. On March 3, 286 children died from COVID compared to more than half a million adults. This is consistent with the number of children dying from pneumonia each year. And at this point, we are losing more children to suicide than to the new coronavirus.
They point out that transfer rates in schools are shockingly low. They name one community in Wisconsin where the positivity rate of the test reached more than 40%. But among the nearly 5,000 students and 654 staff members who take only minimal precautions on classroom education, only seven students tested positive in the course of the study. And zero teachers contracted the disease. They further say that no data requires the need for social distance in schools, which requires that almost all schools can be completely reopened. The doctors provide data showing that three meters separation is good.
After piling up more data from several studies, the doctors declare that “we need to act for the children.” Large numbers of them receive at least insufficient educational assistance, or in some cases not at all. But apart from falling behind in their studies, the school’s closures are demanding mentally and emotionally. As noted above, the suicide rate among children is increasing at an alarming rate, mainly driven by a lack of social interaction.
The reason the politicians and their servants at the CDC are too shy about the requirements to reopen the schools is that they are afraid of the teachers’ unions. And the unions do not want to return to the classroom again until a list of demands that things need based on these data are met. Joe Biden and the Democrats claim that they are the “party of science” that will “follow” the data when they respond to the pandemic. Well? Here is the data, directly from the mouths of the researchers.
It is time to reopen the schools in full. Any further failures or delays will result in more damage and it will fall entirely on the shoulders of our elected officials, not our doctors.
