Juventus-Porto and Borussia Dortmund-Sevilla’s chance, expert choice in the UEFA Champions League

The first two quarter-finals of the Champions League are confirmed on Tuesday as Juventus hosts Porto and Sevilla travel to Borussia Dortmund for two ties separated by one goal margin. Federico Chiesa’s late goal has halved Juventus’ deficit at Porto, making them perhaps favorites to reach the final eight for the fifth time in seven years. Borussia Dortmund will expect to join them after overcoming an early deficit to win 3-2 at Sevilla, and Erling Haaland has continued to grow his reputation on the European stage with an excellent prop.

But how do our panel experts predict Tuesday’s games will play? Read on for their predictions and remember that you can capture all the actions on Paramount +.

Juventus vs Porto

Time: Tuesday, 15:00 ET (Paramount +)
Juventus -225; Sign +340; Postage +650 (chance via William Hill Sportsbook)

Last chance:

Juventus -1.5

Take rounds: Juve have won nine of their last ten home games in all competitions (one draw) and kept clean sheets in six games. With Alvaro Morata resting in the last win against Lazio and Cristiano Ronaldo, I expected Juve to continue. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 3-2)

Romano se neem: Juventus bet everything on the Champions League and can not miss the opportunity. The team will have Leonardo Bonucci, Juan Cuadrado and Alvaro Morata back. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 3-2)

Echegaray neem: Andrea Pirlo knows – as Serie A is more and more likely to go to Inter – that the Champions League is the only saving thing this season. Losing in the round of 16 would be disastrous, especially for Cristiano Ronaldo and what it means for his future. I think Porto will struggle to keep a focused Juve and Ronaldo, who did not play a full game in their win against Lazio this past weekend, will benefit. Federico Chiesa will also score in this one. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 3-2)

West’s name: At home, with the extra boost of Giorgio Chiellini back in training and needing just one goal? I go with CR7 and Juventus. I do not think it will be nice, but I think the home team does the job with a slim victory. Select: Juventus 1, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 2-2 on the breakaway for the goal)

Johnson takes: The away goal in Portugal will be crucial for the Italians as they will do the work at home and advance to the quarter-finals. Young advance. Select: Juventus 1, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 2-2 on the breakaway for the goal)

Benge takes: It really will not be easy for Juve, who signed Cristiano Ronaldo to get them over the finish line in the Champions League and instead fell back into the chase suit. Federico Chiesa was the first player besides CR7 to score a goal for the Bianconeri in three years, and if Ronaldo does not grow up, I will be tempted to move to Porto. Still, he just needs to have enough in the tank to take a regular team to the final eight. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (3-2 overall)

Gonzalez takes: After laying an egg in the first game, Juventus bounced back through Cristiano Ronaldo, who twice managed to see through The Old Lady. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 3-2)

Herrera neem: Porto produced a disturbance from the first innings with two goals, but Juventus could have cut the lead in the winding minutes. Expect Juventus to be motivated by the loss with the home advantage on tow. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 3-2)

Goodman’s name: Despite a poor performance from everyone from manager Andrea Pirlo to star Cristiano Ronaldo for the first time, Juventus remain comfortable in the draw. Even an average performance should be more than enough to see them through this time against a Porto team that is some of their vintage versions. Choice: Juventus 2, Porto 0 (Juventus lead 3-2)

Borussia Dortmund against Sevilla

Time: Tuesday, 15:00 ET (Paramount +)
Borussia Dortmund +111; Sign +270; Sevilla +225 (chance via William Hill Sportsbook)

Last chance:

Borussia Dortmund -0.5

Take rounds: Dortmund are unbeaten in their last seven UCL home games (two draws) – that series will continue. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund leads 5-3)

Romano se neem: Erling Haaland dominates in the Champions League, and he will be the difference again. Sevilla will put their heart into it, but BVB is in good shape. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund leads 5-3)

Echegaray neem: It’s so hard to figure out and yes, I’m going full circle here and could be wrong in so many ways. But I just think Sevilla – which is getting healthier – will want to change a few things in this game and benefit from some major injuries. It depends on Erling Haaland and his fitness, as well as Raphael Guerreiro, who is doubtful for this match. No Jadon Sancho either? I feel that Sevilla will get everything right. But I can already feel this one biting me in the ass. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 1, Sevilla 3 (Sevilla succeed 5-4)

West’s name: It’s incredibly hard to call. Both Dortmund and Sevilla suffered crippling losses this past weekend, and it is impossible to say which version of the parties will appear on Tuesday. I will hang my hat on Erling Haaland and the extra advantage of three away goals that Dortmund achieved in the first draw. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund leads 5-3)

Johnson takes: The Spaniards lost form at the worst possible time with the Copa del Rey now disappearing and the defense far from solid. The Germans recently made a comeback and it will continue with a victory to reach the quarters. Dortmund goes through. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund leads 5-3)

Benge takes: Sevilla have faltered considerably since the first game against Dortmund, who apparently got their number with explosive counters led by Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland. With the latter (Sancho is not having a thigh problem), Marco Reus and so many other attacking talents in the mix, you have to accept that Dortmund will score goals. As for Sevilla, I’m not sure they kicked their addiction to mediocre chances. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund leads 5-3)

Gonzalez takes: Dortmund get some key players in time, put three past Sevilla again and move without too much worry. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 3, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund succeed 6-3)

Herrera neem: An exciting first leg between the sides will set up an interesting second leg, but an in-form Erling Haaland will make the difference in this one. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 3, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund succeed 6-3)

Goodman’s name: Two teams not playing particularly well at the moment means this match will be a balm for anyone no matter what happens. No matter what, Dortmund are going to play an open style, but Sevilla probably do not have the explosiveness to take advantage of Dortmund’s defensive vulnerability. Choice: Borussia Dortmund 2, Sevilla 1 (Borussia Dortmund leads 5-3)
