The airline industry pushes back CDC guidance that vaccinated people should still avoid travel

(CNN) – The airline industry is pushing back on new guidelines for disease control and prevention centers that people who are still vaccinated should still avoid traveling.

In a new statement, the industry group Airlines For America insists that they carry a low risk of coronavirus infection on board an aircraft due to heavily filtered air and a federal mandate to carry. “We remain confident that this low approach will significantly reduce the risk,” the group said.

The announcement comes after the CDC said that those who are vaccinated can meet with others who have been vaccinated and even people at low risk who are not vaccinated but should still avoid travel.

“Every time there is an increase in travel, we have an increase in cases in this country,” said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, said during the coronavirus response information session of the White House on Monday.

Health experts are still worried that the spring break will lead to an increase in coronavirus infection rates.

It seems that more people are already starting to travel.

The Transport Security Administration said it had cleared nearly 1.3 million at airports on Sunday, the highest figure since January 3 with holidays. The TSA has screened nearly a million or more than a million people every day since Thursday, meaning 4.5 million people flew four days.

This is the second disagreement between the airline industry and the new Biden administration.

A source in the airline industry tells CNN that he is asking the CDC to disclose the criteria he will use to adjust travel guidance.
