Xbox test brings Microsoft’s Chromium-based Edge browser to consoles

You may end up with a good reason to use the web browser on your console for more than just the essentials. The edge reports that Microsoft has started testing a version of its Chromium-based Edge browser on the Xbox One and Series X / S. Participate in the Alpha Skip-Ahead test ring and you will have a web experience that is more in line with the modern era, including better compatibility and synchronization with Edge on multiple platforms.

This version is surprisingly buggy and does not include mouse or keyboard support. And while it theoretically allows access to Google Stadiums, we still will not rely on reliable access to those or other intensive web applications.

It may take a while before there is a more polished version of the new Edge for Xbox. When ready, however, the new browser may be a better deal for buying an Xbox if you browse the Internet. At the moment, the PlayStation 5 does not even have an easily accessible web browser (you have to rely on tricks to use it). While that may change, a Chromium-based Xbox browser can give Microsoft a comfortable edge.
