Christian Bale will reunite with Scott Host, the director of Hostiles, for the Gothic horror thriller, which sells CAA Media Finance, Endeavor Content and MadRiver at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Netflix has signed another major deal in the European film market, dropping a $ 55 million report for worldwide rights to the Christian Bale Gothic horror thriller The Pale Blue Eye by director Scott Cooper (Mal hart, Black mass).

The film focuses on an attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the American Military Academy at West Point. Oscar winner Bale reunites with Cooper, director of the 2017 Western Hostiles, who plays a veteran detective investigating the murders, aided by a young cadet who will later become world-renowned author Edgar Allan Poe. Cooper wrote the screenplay, an adaptation of the Louis Bayard novel of the same name.

Netflix has surpassed several competitors to secure global rights to the film. CAA Media Finance and Endeavor Content handled domestic sales The Pale Blue Eye, with MadRiver handling internationally.

Cross Creek, manufacturers of The Chicago 7 Trial – which included Netflix in a global deal last summer after the film could not be released in theaters due to COVID-19 – are producers of The Pale Blue Eye. Bale and Cooper with products along with Birdman producer John Lesher and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek.

The film begins this fall after the Bale’s duties on Taika Waititi’s Marvel movie Thor: Love and thunder and the untitled film David O Russell, both of which are currently in production.

The streaming giant was buying into this year’s virtual European film market, and earlier signed several 8-digit deals: a $ 15 million report for North America and Latin America’s rights to the film Colin Firth World War II Operation minced meat of The King’s Speech producer See-Saw and Cohen Media Group, and abandons $ 18 million for US rights to Liam Neeson-Laurence Fishburne action thriller The ice road in an agreement with CAA Media finance.

Deadline first reported the news from Netflix The Pale Blue Eye agreement.
