The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) plans to reopen schools starting April 12, the city’s education council announced Friday.
After being under national scrutiny for months over the school board’s decision to give priority to renaming public schools over reopening, school officials agreed with teachers’ unions to get children back in the classroom.

“We know that students and families are suffering. Whether it is parents / caregivers who try their best to support their children, or teachers who work tirelessly to support learning during a pandemic,” said Gabriela López, chairwoman of the school board.
