Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), warns of another possible increase in COVID-19 infections in the US, as the number of new cases at a rate of health officials remains too high .
Cases in the US still fluctuate between 60,000 and 70,000 a day after a sharp decline in cases over the past few weeks after the record high holiday boom. Daily coronary virus deaths hang around the 2000 mark.

Public health officials are concerned about the decline in the decline plus the spread of new variants and the easing of restrictions by states could cause another upswing.
Fauci pointed out that after the first surge in the spring, the cases that rose are about 20,000 equal before a second wave in July reached a peak of about 70,000. Cases then flattened out about 40,000 before the U.S. began picking up hundreds of thousands of new cases a day through the winter.
‘The problem is that we’re starting to get a plateau. That plateau is about 60,000 to 70,000 cases per day. If you have so many viral activities on a plateau, it almost always means that you are in danger of getting a peak again, ” Fauci said during a White House COVID-19 briefing Friday.
‘Many countries in Europe have just seen it. They had a decrease in cases over a period of six weeks. Their plateau. And now, during the past week, they have seen a 9 percent increase in cases, something we desperately want to avoid, ‘he said.
Fauci’s warning comes as several states have begun imposing restrictions to limit the spread of the virus, despite the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC)’s recommendation not to do so. Both Texas and Mississippi announced this week that they are doing away with mask mandates and that businesses could reopen up to 100 percent.
CDC director Rochelle Walensky said Friday the number of cases and deaths in the U.S. was still too high and urged Americans to double their prevention measures.
‘I know the idea of wearing a mask and returning to everyday activities is appealing, but we are not there yet. And we have been – we have seen this film before: When preventative measures such as mask mandates are rolled back, things go up, ”Walenksy Said Friday.
The warnings come because the US has had promising news on the vaccine front. Biden’s government announced this week that it would have enough vaccine by May to vaccinate all American adults against the coronavirus, rather than the government’s estimate to secure the doses by July.
Johnson & Johnson’s single-vaccine vaccine also received emergency permission from the Food and Drug Administration.
According to the CDC, so far more than 82 million doses have been administered across the country.
