The Padres claim Jordan Humphreys renounces the Giants and will add him to the 40-man roster, per span. To make room for the 40-man, Jose Castillo was placed on the 60-day injured list. Castillo will soon undergo surgery on Tommy John.
Humphreys was an 18th-round draft pick for the Mets in the 2015 June draft. He missed the entire 2018 season after undergoing surgery on Tommy John, returning to make just a handful of appearances in the minor action for the Mets in 2019. Billy Hamilton. It would appear that Humphreys was an introduction to the nomadic class of baseball. There are always a few players caught in the waiver carousel every winter, and Humphreys is one of this year’s contestants.
He was appointed in November for assignment, to which the Indians then demanded him. When the Indians claimed Harold Ramirez, Humphreys is DFA’ed again. The Giants brought him back, claiming the 24-year-old from Cleveland. Presumably to make way for the signing of José Álvarez, the Giants once again relinquished Humphreys. Humphreys has now twice been a member of the Giants organization without ever tackling San Francisco in a game. Given the depth in San Diego, it would be a little surprising if Humphreys finds his ultimate home in San Diego, but at least for now he will become the 40th man on the Padres series.
