Another 257 cases of COVID-19, 5 deaths were reported in Utah on Monday

SALT LAKE CITY – According to the Utah Department of Health, Utah’s COVID-19 cases increased by 257 on Monday, with five more deaths.

The state now estimates that there are 16,738 active cases of the disease in Utah. There were 4493 vaccinations as of Monday, the health department reported.

According to the health department, the average number of positive cases of seven days per day is now at 636. The positive test rate per day for the period reported using the “people over people” method is now 11%. The positive test rate per day of seven days, calculated using the ‘test over test’ method, is now 5.1%.

There are 214 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 89 in intensive care. About 66% of all Utah intensive care units are now occupied, including about 68% of the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 47% of all non-ICU hospital beds in the state are filled.

A total of 721,029 vaccines were administered in the state, compared to 716,536 on Sunday. Of these, 256,554 are second doses of the vaccine.

The new numbers point to a 0.07% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the 2,208,924 people tested so far for COVID-19 in Utah, 16.8% tested positive for COVID-19. The number of tests carried out since the start of the pandemic is now 3,813,782, up 6,517 since Sunday. Of these, 3,133 were tests of humans not previously tested for COVID-19.

The five deaths reported on Monday include:

  • An Iron County man who was between 65 and 84 years old and was admitted to the hospital when he died
  • A man from Kane County who was between 65 and 84 and was admitted to hospital when he died
  • Two men in Salt Lake County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
  • A Salt Lake County man who was between 45 and 64 years old and was admitted to the hospital when he died

Monday’s total gives 371,492 confirmed cases in Utah, with 14,724 total hospitalizations and 1,940 total deaths due to the disease. A total of 352,814 COVID-19 cases in Utah are now considered recovery, according to the Department of Health.

The government of Utah, Spencer Cox, will provide its weekly pandemic update, according to its office, at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at 11:00 p.m.
