“Do not have much to give”

California Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California mocked California House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Saturday for saying he would bet in his own House that Republicans would gain control of the lower chamber next year.

In a CPAC panel on Saturday with Indiana Representative Jim Banks and Conservative Union President Matt Schlapp, McCarthy said he was so confident that by 2022 the Democrats would lose their majority in the House that he would lose his own house on it will bet.

“We are going to get the majority back. We are five seats away,” he said. “I would bet my house. My personal house. Do not tell my wife, but I will bet it. This is the smallest majority the Democrats have had in 100 years.”

Pelosi responded within hours to McCarthy’s CPAC appearance in a statement to Newsweek.

“No one should be surprised that the minority leader is willing to bet his house. McCarthy does not care much after sacrificing his integrity to try to cancel $ 1400 survival surveys for Americans during a deadly pandemic,” the statement. by email by Robyn Patterson, Deputy Director of Communications by Pelosi.

Republicans lost control of the House to Democrats during the 2018 midterm elections. However, the IDP thwarted expectations in the 2020 election cycle by turning over several seats in the lower chamber when it was expected to lose more than a dozen.

McCarthy and Pelosi have been trading jabs over President Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 billion stimulus package over the past few weeks.

On Friday night, two hours before the House voted to pass the expanded stimulus legislation, McCarthy criticized the Democrats for pushing for the relief bill, which he called the ‘Pelosi Payoff Bill’.

“Congress will not even vote on Saturday at 2 a.m.,” McCarthy said. “Why? Because the Democrats are so embarrassed about all the non-COVID waste in this bill, that they’re trapping it through the night.”

Earlier this month, Pelosi joked with McCarthy for being cowardly for refusing to condemn GOP representative Marjorie Taylor Greene for her support of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

‘After a number of conversations and literally running away from reporters, minority leader Kevin McCarthy (Q-CA) has made it clear that he refuses to take action against the conspiracy theorist, rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, ‘reads a statement issued by Pelosi’s office on February 3.

“As a result, the House will continue with a vote to deprive Greene of her seat on the esteemed House Committee on Education and Labor and the House Committee on Budget. McCarthy’s failure to lead his party effectively gives the keys to Greene – ‘ an anti-Semite, QAnon supporter and 9/11 Truther. “
