SALT LAKE CITY – Government Spencer Cox said Utah will begin receiving the newly approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine on Wednesday.
“So many people have suffered from this pandemic,” Cox said. ” A third authorized vaccine tells me that miracles still happen through some of our darkest times. ”
The vaccine is approved for people 18 years and older, but the vaccines in Utah are distributed according to the Cox’s office according to the applicable standards.
The Utah Department of Health is working to correct a bug that would allow 7,200 disabled Utahns to schedule vaccination appointments.
“An error in the registration system at Vaccinate.Utah.Gov has allowed Utah residents, who are not currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, to schedule appointments,” the department said in a statement. said. “About 7,200 people who did not meet the requirements were able to make appointments.”
According to the statement, the non-qualifying appointments will be canceled within the next 24 hours and email notifications will be sent to those whose appointments have been canceled.
Several people have found out about the error on social media and have already canceled their appointments, health officials said.
“We apologize for this error and for any confusion it has caused. The criteria for vaccinating COVID-19 can be found at coronavirus.utah / gov / vaccine,” the statement read.
Those who believe that their appointment has been wrongly canceled should contact the health department where they have scheduled their appointment, or try to schedule their appointment online.
