The 720p resolution for Xbox Game Pass cloud streaming (also known as xCloud) is decent on a phone, but it will certainly not cut it when the service comes on computers and iPads. Fortunately, it appears that a resolution clash is in order. Windows Central and The edge both say Microsoft is testing 1080p streams. It’s not sure how widespread the testing is or how fast you’ll see the upgrade, but it’s going to be a big boost in quality for gamers on the big screen.
A simultaneous leak of an updated Xbox Game Streaming app for Windows also shows how the software will accommodate more players. It reportedly provides touch and gyro input (motion) support, making it more feasible to play Xbox games on a tablet like the Surface line remotely if you do not have a gamepad.
Both the 1080p test and the new app are early, and it’s not sure when one of them will appear. There are rumors that Microsoft will have a game opportunity for March, but there is no guarantee that the upgrade will be ready by that time. However, it’s easy to see how Microsoft is moving forward. Cloud games and remote gaming work best if you do not have to worry about your device choices or image quality – they will not appear completely after this, but they will be close enough for more people to try.
