Covid-19 killed nearly 51,000 people in California, becoming the first state to kill 50,000 coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday, according to a NBC News report.
The state has seen more than 3.5 million infections, a statistic that also leads the country on the basis of raw numbers. California is also the most populous state with about 40 million people.
As of Wednesday night, the state of New York had reported more than 48,000 deaths, and Texas had more than 42,000, according to the NBC News count.

Part of the increase in California’s reported deaths Wednesday comes from Los Angeles County, which announced 806 deaths that were initially not counted as associated with Covid-19.
The province’s health department said the deaths occurred after extensive investigations into death rates and occurred during a large increase from December 3 to February 3.
At the time of the boom, not all deaths had been reported to the department, officials said. In a later review of important reports mentioning the cause of death, it was found. More than 9,700 deaths have been reported from December to January.

“It is heartbreaking to report on this large number of additional deaths associated with Covid-19 and a devastating reminder of the terrible toll that the winter storm has hit so many families across the country,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department. of public health, said in a statement.
New daily reported cases of Covid-19 have fallen nationwide in recent weeks, but health experts said the numbers are still very high.
On Sunday, the country passed away 500,000 deaths. According to the NBC News report, the US has recorded more than 28 million cases as of Wednesday night.
