Millennium Media is no longer involved in the sale or production of Brett Ratner’s Milli Vanilli film, Variety confirmed it.
However, according to RatPac, the project also has other bidders and investors fully financing production. Millennium and Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment released a joint statement on the decision on Wednesday.
‘On the heels of the announcement of the Milli Vanilli film with a long pregnancy, the project offered several competitive offers and a group of private equity investors emerged who fully funded the film to begin production soon, ‘reads the statement. “Millennium will not sell the film at EFM or be involved in the production.”
Ratner’s biopic of the ’80s and’ 90s lip-synching musicians was released before the Berlin Film Festival market on February 19, and it’s the director’s return to filmmaking following allegations of sexual misconduct. In November 2017, seven women, including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge, accused the director of sexual harassment and misconduct, leading Warner Bros. to sever ties with Ratner.
In a statement on February 20, Time’s Up said Ratner was not allowed to return to the industry.
“TIME’S UP was born out of the national bill on sexual harassment in the workplace,” Tina Tchen, president and CEO of Time’s Up Foundation, said in response to the news. “Our movement is a product of many courageous deeds by many survivors, including those who have spoken out about what they endured under Brett Ratner.”
Tchen went on to add that Ratner had not properly addressed the allegations and that he had rather filed a case against the women who came forward.
“Ratner not only acknowledged or apologized for the damage he had done, but he also filed lawsuits in an attempt to silence the voices of survivors who emerged – a tactic from the predator’s. playbook. You can’t go away for a few years and then show up again and act like nothing happened. We have not – and will not – forget. And Millennium Media does not belong either. There should be no coming back. #wewontforgetbrett. ”
