Washington Post: Evidence shows that South Dakota AG police were involved in a fatal crash that found the victim’s glasses in his car

Ravnsborg beat and killed 55-year-old Joseph Boever on September 12. He initially told police he had hit a deer, but he discovered Boever’s body the next morning after returning to the collision scene.

“These are Joe’s glasses, so it means his face came through your windshield,” one of the detectives told Ravnsborg, according to the Post, during an interview released by the state on Tuesday.

“His face was in your windshield, Jason. Think about it,” a detective at the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation told Ravnsborg, according to the Post, who said the official “denied that he had the glasses in his vehicle or to saw the man’s body. ‘According to the newspaper, the newly released interviews were recorded on 14 and 30 September.

Prosecutors in the state last week announced three charges of crimes against Ravnsborg, the Post said – charges that could result in up to 90 days in jail and $ 1,500 in damages if the state’s leading law enforcement officer is found guilty of all.

After the police interview was released, the government of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, a Republican, asked Ravnsborg to retire and in a tweet: “Now that the investigation has been closed and charges have been filed, I believe the Attorney General should resign.”

“I started reviewing the material we release today, and I encourage others to review it as well,” she wrote.

But Ravnsborg is not going to resign, according to Mike Deaver, his private spokesman, who told the Argus leader that “this issue never hampered his ability to do the job of the office.”
Last year, the state released a toxicological report stating that a blood sample given by Ravnsborg the day after the accident showed that his blood alcohol content was 0%.

Officials also announced Ravnsborg’s 911 call last year on the night of the crash in which he told shipments: ‘I hit something’ that was in the middle of the road.

The dispatcher asks, “Are you injured at all, Jason?”

To which Ravnsborg replied, “I am not, but my car is sure as hell.”

Ravnsborg, a Republican, was elected South Dakota’s attorney general in 2018, according to the office’s website.
