Washington – Onondaga County Governor Ryan McMahon will testify to Congress on Wednesday about the ripple effects of the coronavirus pandemic on life in central New York.
McMahon agreed to appear as a witness during a Home Security committee on the pandemic, at the request of Rep. John Katko, the largest Republican on the panel.
Katko invited McMahon to talk about the pandemic that challenges mental health, the opioid crisis and schools, Dan Kranz said.
Land management will also be asked to share its perspective on the challenges posed by the coronavirus vaccine.
McMahon offers the only insight from a local community during the trial entitled “Confronting the coronavirus: Perspectives on the Covid-19 pandemic a year later.” Three other panelists are expected to testify on medical issues.
The virtual hearing before the full 35-member Home Security Committee will be broadcast live on the committee’s website and on YouTube.
McMahon, 40, will also be able to offer a view as a government official dealing with coronavirus and as someone who has suffered from pandemic stress. He told syracuse.com that his recent double vision health problems are likely due to such stress.
“I’m more of the conclusion that it’s pandemic related, ‘McMahon told syracuse.com. ‘When we see what this pandemic has done to the public and the community … the human side of things … it’s hard to vote. To eliminate it. To be honest with you, I can not turn it off. ”
