The 21-year-old teacher is the youngest woman to ever row across the Atlantic alone

A British swimming teacher has a World record as the youngest woman to row solo across any ocean after completing the 3,000-mile voyage across the Atlantic.

Jasmine Harrison, 21, left the Canary Islands on December 12 and arrived in Antigua in the Caribbean 70 days, three hours and 48 minutes later, as part of the 2020 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. The ocean rowing event features dozens of boats from around the world, with some solo rowers and others with crews of up to four.

During her voyage, Harrison came near a drilling ship and capsized twice. With about 100 kilometers over the record series, Harrison overturned and injured her elbow.

‘I was basically thrown at a wall about 20 kilometers per hour. It will hurt, especially in the middle of your sleep, ”she said The guardian.

During the voyage, Harrison would row for two hours and sleep on rotation for two hours. While cut off from the world, she could use a satellite phone to call home.

Harrison said she was inspired to take part in the challenge after watching the 2018 race while swimming in the Caribbean.

“It felt like I had to do it,” Harrison said Good morning Britain Monday and added that she only started rowing in July. “I knew I would not be happy until I rowed across the Atlantic.”

Before Harrison, the youngest woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean Katie Spotz, an American who undertook the journey in 2010 at the age of 22.
