Forty new deaths were reported on Sunday, Feb. 21 by public health officials in Orange County, raising the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 3,810.
The data on deaths in the country are compiled from death certificates or collected through the course of case investigations and it can take weeks to process. The most recent death was recorded on 13 February.
The Orange County Health Care Agency on Sunday reported 252 new cases of the coronavirus, increasing the cumulative total in the country to 244,632 cases since the detection began.
The province also reported 577 patients in local hospitals. On Sunday, 190 patients were listed in the intensive care units, which is less than the previous report. The hospital patient totals are at about the same level as at the end of November.
The vaccination dashboard against the California Department of Public Health shows that 620,629 doses of vaccines have been distributed in Orange County as of February 20th.
An estimated 5,426 cases of the virus have been recorded in Orange County in the past 14 days. The average of 14 days a week ago was 9111.
According to the provincial update, 2,962,759 tests for the coronavirus have been given since its inception locally, with at least 12,110 new tests since the previous report.
Of the cumulative 3,810 deaths reported by the virus, 940 were skilled residents of nursing homes, 428 in relief facilities, one was a prisoner in the OC and eight were listed as homeless.
The province’s death rate by age is as follows:
- 85 and older: 32.89% (1,253, higher than 10)
- 75-84: 23.96% (913, higher 5)
- 65-74: 19.27% (734, higher 6)
- 55-64: 13.81% (526, 18 higher)
- 45-54: 6.56% (250)
- 35-44: 2.2% (84)
- 25-34: 1.05% (40)
- 18-24: 0.24% (9, higher 1)
- 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)
It is estimated that 223,522 people have recovered from the virus since Sunday. The number of people who recovered is based on the previous cumulative case of 28 days.
The data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials stressed. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
