Apple has sued Epic Games rival Steam in an attempt to gather information that it says will help with the ongoing legal battle with Epic Games.
The summons – which via a joint discovery letter Valve’s detailed backlash on demand – was made on the grounds that Steam “is a direct competitor to the Epic Games Store”.
Despite Epic’s insistence that the request “poses no risk of competitive harm”, Valve says it “has already produced documents on its revenue, competition with Epic, Steam distribution contracts and other documents” and believes it was not necessary to ‘six years of selling computer games and articles for hundreds of third-party video games, and then generating a huge amount of confidential information about these games and Valve’s revenue ‘(thanks, PC Gamer).
Consequently, although Apple and Valve are believed to “meet telephonically and meet and exchange correspondence in a good faith effort to resolve outstanding disputes”, the parties could not reach an agreement.
It is now up to the court to decide what and how much information Valve should be required to share.
If you have to catch up on the latest happenings with the court case, it looks like the case and the lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games will finally come to a conclusion, with a trial for May 2021.
As we explain on our full overview of the collision, has been definitely interesting over the past few months. There are several lawsuits from both Apple and Epic Games, and it started with circumventing Apple’s 30 percent transaction fee in the App Store.
This whole saga began on August 13, when Epic Games released an update to Fortnite on iOS and Android devices. This update gave players the option to buy V-Bucks live from Epic Games itself, instead of going through the App Store on iOS devices and the Google Play Store on Android devices. Later that day, Apple immediately removed Fortnite from the App Store, and shortly thereafter, Google followed suit by also removing the game from the Google Play Store.
As 116 million players were denied access to the Apple devices, Epic Games took the matter to court.
Here are all the new games of 2021 (and further).
