COVID NYC Update: City has less than 1,000 first-dose COVID-19 vaccine as two new sites open for appointments

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – The city of New York had less than 1,000 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday, data from the City’s website showed.

The city gets its stock from the state.

The state says their loads have been delayed this week due to the winter storms hitting much of the country.

Governor Cuomo said on Friday: “Every dose that had to be sent on Monday was withheld, and only a limited number of Pfizer vaccines left the dispatch facilities on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he wanted to cut Cuomo out of the process and send the vaccine directly to the city.

The City has not stopped administering vaccines as it has more than 110,000 second doses, which de Blasio wants to use as first doses, but government officials and federal officials were resistant.

Meanwhile, people can start making appointments for two new mass vaccination sites that will open in Brooklyn and Queens on Wednesday.

Appointments are open on Saturday at 08:00.

The sites at Medgar Evers College in Crown Heights and York College in Jamaica are managed by the State of New York and FEMA.

For the first week, they only take appointments of people living in certain zip codes that are hit hard by the pandemic.

On Friday, de Blasio attended the opening of a new vaccination room at the Empire Outlets on Staten Island.

His wife, New York First Lady Chirlane McCray, visited a vaccination center at Canarsie High School on Friday where she thanked the workers for turning in the storm.
