There were two new cases of coronavirus on 18 February 2021 and eight active cases.

More than 30 people received their second Covid-19 vaccination prematurely and will need to get a third chance before being fully immunized.

The Ministry of Health admitted the mistake tonight and also reported two new cases of the virus from 337 test results.

A health ministry spokesman said the ministry had discovered that 34 people had received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine earlier than the 21-day requirement. The individuals are contacted by the vaccination centers and a third vaccination will be offered to them 21 days after the second dose.

Ayoola Oyinloye, the chief medical officer, said: “Measures have been taken to ensure that no one receives the second dose of vaccine before 21 days.

He added: ‘This happened early in the vaccination process when vaccine recipients made their own appointments rather than having medical staff set the date and time for appointments for second doses, and the disease control centers indicated a grace period of four days. is allowed. Public Health England advises two days. ”

Dr Oyinloye said the Ministry of Health had implemented a standardized public health policy to comply with the manufacturer’s guidelines for the second dose administered on day 21 and before the end of 12 weeks.

“I can reassure everyone who has been in contact with me. There is no evidence that the adverse effects after a third dose are other than the well-documented side effects,” he said.

The first new case of Covid-19 reported today is a non-resident who arrived on the Delta flight from New York on February 12 and tested positive on their day-four test.

The second new case is a non-resident who arrived on February 12 on the Jet Blue flight from New York and also tested positive on their day four test.

There has been no recovery since the last update.

The health ministry also said it was still experiencing a huge demand for its call center, especially with requests to sign up to be vaccinated. The ministry apologized for any delays and called for callers waiting to be connected to be patient.
