Buckingham Palace has issued an update on the Duke of Edinburgh as it prepares to spend a fourth night in hospital.
A spokesman for the palace said 99-year-old Prince Philip was likely to remain in hospital over the weekend and next week for ‘observation and rest’.
This decision was taken after consultation with the Duke’s doctor.
Palace sources would like to emphasize that Prince Philip is staying in the hospital out of an “abundance of caution” and that he is staying in a good mood.
The queen’s husband was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London on Tuesday as a precaution after feeling unwell.
The duke is being observed in hospital after being taken there from Windsor Castle.
No details were given about the duke’s condition, though royal officials confirmed it was not linked to Covid.
Prince Philip was expelled to King Edward VII on 16 February, although news of his admission was not shared until the following day. When hospital treatment was confirmed, Buckingham Palace said he was there for rest and observation.
