Jets could have a Deshaun Watson problem as impatience increases

The Jets may be facing a mystery in the pursuit of Deshaun Watson.

Although at least one report saw the Jets as Watson’s preferred destination in a trade, the Texans’ disgruntled star quarterback reportedly knows that the pull of the patches they could have given up to land him was a would be double-edged sword.

“… [Watson] is aware that any deal with New York would limit the Jets’ ability to build a quality roster around him, ”The Athletic reported Thursday as part of a deep dive into how Watson’s time in Houston soured.

Although the Texans insisted, they did not intend to trade Watson, despite his request, the Houston Chronicle reported earlier that their asking price for him would be at least two first-round picks, two second-round picks and two young defensive entrees.

The Jets have two first-round picks in each of the following two concepts – including the no. 2 and no. 23 picks in April – but the package it could take to trade for Watson could certainly be expensive for a team that’s a 14-14 season that isn’t full of talent and has enough holes to fill.

Watson has a trade terms that can tell him where he is going and whether the Texans are continuing negotiations.

Meanwhile, Watson and his circuit are still awaiting a deal while the NFL’s quarterback carousel continues to spin – with the Eagles’ deal with Carson Wentz after the Colts Thursday, the latest deal that has come down.

“What are the criteria for a quarterback to trade and then actually be traded?” Quincy Avery, Watson’s personal quarterback coach, tweeted shortly after Wentz fulfilled its reported trade wish. “Ask a friend.”
