Microsoft recently announced in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center that they are launching a new Teams Pro service plan in mid-March. The company announced that the service plan will add webinar capabilities and intelligence capabilities to Teams. However, the message did not make clear whether these Teams Pro features would be free or paid add-ons.
In a recent update posted to the Message Center, the company has now clarified that Teams Pro is an addition to existing service plans, and that there will be no additional cost associated with enabling the new features and functions (via ZDNet ). The new service plan will be enabled by default for all users, and will be available to organizations with Microsoft 365 and Office 365 education and business subscriptions.
‘On February 9, we published a MC post about a new Teams Pro service plan. For clarification, there is no change to existing product licenses with the addition of this new service plan. Rather, the service plan will be automatically added to Microsoft 365 and Office 365 E5 / E3 / A5 / A3, and Microsoft 365 Business Standard / Business Premium licenses, and will enable users licensed for these SKUs to receive features automatically which to Teams in the near future, ”reads the message.
In addition, the company noted that Office 365 executives can manually enable or disable Teams Pro for specific users. For Teams users whose accounts for this Teams Pro service plan have been activated, they can take advantage of webinar registrations and more in future updates.
‘There is no action required by administrators, and no additional purchase is required for users of Microsoft 365 and Office 365 E5 / E3 / A5 / A3 and Microsoft 365 Business Standard / Business Premium to acquire the new Teams capabilities that will be part of the Teams Pro service plan, ”the company added.
As a reminder, this is not the first time Microsoft has made Teams new features available to specific users in an organization. The company has already tested this approach with license team users who want access to the Dataverse application in Teams. This should make it easier for organizations to control access to some new and complex features in their tenant.
