Eight-time Emmy winner RuPaul paid tribute to his ‘dear friend’ – singer-dancer Ari Gold – after he (47) died, after a battle with leukemia.
‘Lovely, Gentle Man @SirAriGold,’ the 60-year-old drag icon – who boasts 7.7 million followers on social media – tweeted on Sunday.

RuPaul (last name Charles) has known Ari since 2002, and he posted their year-old conversation on his podcast, A Kiki From the Cancer Ward.
In 2007, Gold starred Tyrone Cohen in Mike Ruiz’s cult comedy Starrbooty, starring RuPaul’s Drag Race host.
The Bronx native is best known for his 2007 track Where the Music Takes You, which appeared on Billboard’s top 10 chart for the hot dance / electronic songs.
Ari sang with Diana Ross and Cyndi Lauper, worked with Boy George and opened for Chaka Khan.

Laverne Cox, winner of the day’s Emmy Award, shared a montage in honor of the NYU degree, which she has known since the 1990s.
“There have been so many people out of my life over the last 25 years and gone, but you have been a constant,” the 48-year-old transgender pioneer wrote via Instagram.
“When I grew and developed, you developed with me. The spiritual journey we have both been on has made it clear why we have lived in each other’s lives for so long. I’m so crushed that you moved on today.
