As Valentine’s Day draws to a close, lovers are putting the final pink-and-red line on their plans for February 14th. They prepare a romantic dinner, make a cheesy Valentine’s Day craft and of course make a stock of sweet treats.
But as with most things, the preference for Valentine’s Day candy varies from person to person and even from state to state. The job-hunting website Zippia used Google Trends to determine the most popular Valentine’s Day candy by state, and one candy stood out above the rest: chocolate strawberries.
The company uses Google Trends to determine which Valentine’s Day candy peaked in search volume on February 14th. From there, they judged an excessively high amount in each state on what candy to look for. It is not surprising that delicacies based on chocolate had the highest right, with 45 of the 50 countries’ preference for sweets of the milk, dark or white type.
In terms of chocolate strawberries, 10 out of 50 states have made fruit spoilage a priority. M & Ms and chocolate roses were close, and got the love of eight states each. Chocolate truffles, Hershey’s Kisses and Dove chocolates were preferred by five states each.
One treat that didn’t get much love: candy chains. This not-so-festive was a favorite in California, but nowhere else in the country. Another treat that people want to befriend: conversation hearts. Although it was a symbol of the holiday, the chalky candy was only popular in four states: Iowa, Maine, Michigan and North Dakota.
No matter how popular a candy is on February 14th, they will all get discounts on February 15th.
