109 by Resort Have Virus

A ski resort in Colorado has reported at least 109 confirmed cases of coronavirus among employees. This amounts to 6.4% of the 1,700 employees of Winter Park, the Denver Post reports. In a joint statement with local health officials, the resort said investigations found that “these cases were not traced back to transmission through interaction with visitors, but rather from social gatherings outside the workplace and community housing.” The outbreak of the virus was declared on January 23, but only reported this week. Winter Park said it is working with medical experts to find ways to prevent future spread among employees, per People.

However, due to the low number of people tested, it is possible that the actual number of infections per KOAA is higher. This is the biggest outbreak so far this season at a ski resort in Colorado, according to CNN. A spokesman for the resort said: “We have done extensive planning and had to get state approval for our operations before we could open on December 3rd.” Measures instituted by the resort include a mask mandate, restrictions on places to eat and the number of people allowed, contactless accommodation, more employees and more testing for it. A government assistant, Jared Polis, said the ski resorts in Colorado needed to plan a better job for the weekend. (Read more coronavirus stories.)
