Deshaun Watson’s pipe flow to the 49ers continues after a report came out saying Watson was intrigued by the idea of playing in San Francisco. It remains far-fetched, but since Watson has a trade terms, these rumors do not die soon.
For JJ Watt to land with the Niners, the team must release Dee Ford with a designation to June 1st. From there, you have to get creative with Watt’s contract like with George Kittle and Arik Armstead. If I were to pay this free agency big money for a lead, I would go with the Rams ‘Leonard Floyd or the Cardinals’ Haason Reddick from a complementary standpoint based on who the 49ers have up front.
If Watt wants to play for the Niners at a reasonable price, or if he is signed, it is a good advantage for the team from an intangible / leadership point of view. Nick Bosa, Javon Kinlaw and Arik Armstead would get the chance to see how Watt works and what it takes to get and stay on an elite playing field.
The Bills and Ravens make the best sense as landing sites for Watt.

Every 49ers fan should already know that there is no way to predict who will come back strong from ACL tears and who will not. The silver lining of Hurd’s injury is a) It was isolated for the ACL and, unlike Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas, no other parts of the knee were involved and b) It happened in August. With straight ACL tears, the patient can be back in nine months. Which means the tail end of OTAs and minicamp is a possibility for Hurd.

Why not go after a former first-round pick in Neal as a cheaper alternative? After earning a Pro Bowl trip with Atlanta in 2017, the Florida product has played a combined four games in the next two seasons.
He did appear in 15 games in 2020, but was not the same player we saw before the injury. Adding Neal to the mix would not prevent San Francisco from being safe at some point in the draft, but it would not force the team’s hands early. Neal probably doesn’t watch more than $ 5 million a year.

49ers Hold or Release: Safety

Tart is one of the best safety features in the NFL when it’s healthy. Unfortunately for the 49ers, the six-year-old veteran has missed 24 games in the past four seasons and has never played a full 16 game schedule.
Tartt played a career-low 373 snaps in 2020. The highlight of his season would come in the season opener against Arizona when he would intercept a pass from Kyler Murray, the first turnover by Murray in his young career against the 49ers.
Tartt would finish 2020 with 30 tackles, intercepting one, and defending four passes

An unlimited free agent, and Tartt is not expected to be with the 49ers again in 2021.
