Forecasters say ice, snow and sleet could freeze the long Presidential Day weekend in the three-state territory, with some of the worst weather coming Sunday morning just in time for Valentine’s Day.
A winter weather forecast is in effect for Central and Southern New Jersey, but forecasters believe the entire region is in turbulent conditions as a winter system moves from the south on Saturday afternoon.
‘It can bring a mixture of snow, ice rain and even snow to the area. Start tomorrow late in the day and through our night until even Sunday morning before it ends, ”said Alan Reppert, senior meteorologist at Accuweather.
There won’t be much snow accumulating, but the messy rainfall, coupled with the continuing temperature in the 20s, could make New Yorkers think twice about a Valentine’s Day outing, forecasters said.
It’s going to be icy rain and rainfall [Sunday] mornings so that it will lead to smooth travel conditions, Reppert said.
The presidential day on Monday awaits more inclement weather, with rain showers and icy rain arriving in the city in the afternoon and staying until Tuesday morning, according to the forecast of Accuweather.
Warmer temperatures and clear conditions are expected by the middle of the week, with more snowfall on Thursday.
