Spotify lets employees work almost anywhere

The move to work from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic will be temporary for many companies, but like Twitter, Facebook and Microsoft, Spotify seems to be embracing long-term work. It has announced a Work From Anywhere program, which will allow employees to set up their store virtually anywhere they choose.

It largely depends on the employees whether they go to an office if it is safe to do so again or mostly work from home (or just anywhere with a decent internet connection). If they choose a location where no Spotify office is nearby, the company will assemble them with a collaboration space. Spotify calls the move a “new way of collaborating that Spotifiers can work from wherever they think and create their best.”

Once the program is off the job in the summer, employees will need to talk to their manager and team to find out how often they will visit the office. There are some restrictions on location, based on time zone requirements and ‘regional entity laws’.

Spotify joins a number of other major technology companies to adopt a remote work culture. Salesforce has just made a similar announcement. It allows for more flexibility regarding schedules and allows most employees to work from home at least part of the week.
