“There is no reason to panic about diabetes, but there is reason to be vigilant and note the link between COVID and diabetes.”
Some are worried about a new coronavirus report.
There seems to be a link between coronavirus and diabetes. 40% of people who died from coronavirus had diabetes. And people who have already suffered from the condition are more likely to have serious complications if they contract the virus.

“There is no reason to panic about diabetes, but there is reason to be vigilant and note the link between COVID and diabetes,” said Dr. Francesco Rubino, per Today.
Experts suggest that new or recent COVID-19 patients should be alert to diabetic symptoms, which may include excessive thirst, blurred vision, fatigue, and excessive urination.
“Any inflammatory condition can cause insulin resistance,” said Dr. Domenico Accili written in a commentary in Nature Metabolism by the director of the Columbia University Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center in New York.

The coronavirus can enter cells in the pancreas, liver and intestines, so it is very important to maintain a normal sugar metabolism. Blood sugar levels that are too high or too low can cause type 1 or 2 diabetes.
More than 370 physicians around the world have patient stories for a global COVID-19 patient registry.
“It’s clear that the vast majority of people who have COVID-19 will not have diabetes,” Rubino said. “(But) I think there’s a problem … even a relatively rare event can become significant if COVID is so common.”
Doctors and experts are still investigating the discovery, but many COVID-19 patients are eventually linked to the disease.
“The data absolutely says that this seems to be the case, and it is at a higher rate than we first realized,” said Dr. Robert Gabbay, chief scientist and medical officer for the American Diabetes Association, said.
‘It’s very, very worrying. We live in the midst of an epidemic of diabetes, and literally the last thing we need is something that raises the rate even further. ”
