With the Bruins in possession of the shooter and the time running away in the last minutes of their game against the Rangers on Wednesday, goalkeeper Tuukka Rask started skating to the Boston bench. This is common when a team is down and wants to put an extra skater on the ice to improve the chances of a draw.
The only problem? The score was already tied, 2-2.
Bruce coach Bruce Cassidy, his assistants and at least six teammates on the bench frantically waved to Rask to get back between the pipes.
What does Rask think?
‘I just had to tell Jaro something [Halak] really fast, ”Rask shot dead.
“No, I honestly thought we were down, 2-1,” he said slightly sheepishly. “That’s it. I was waiting for Butchy to wave at me. I was like, ‘Why is he not …’ There was another minute and a half left. I decided to come. Chucky [McAvoy] told me, ‘Buddy, it’s 2-2.’ “
Cassidy smiled and shook his head slightly.
“I would like to think that he thought it was a delayed punishment,” he said.
Left wing Brad Marchand said he did think the Bruins were on their way to the showdown. He was going to give his net less a chance – “he made a lot of big savings tonight” – but Rask will take his share of the rib.
“I did not panic at all,” Rask said when he realized the game was tied up, and she was just empty. “I actually laughed more.
‘Hey, I think it’s an entertainment industry. Hopefully [fans] had a good laugh out of it. ”
Several of Rask’s 33 saves on Wednesday were a variety in the film, dropping the Bruins in a third period again when they were eliminated 15-6 and allowed 11 of the 14 points on the ice. The Bruins won 3-2, extended on Marchand’s goal.
