Stars that appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel, lends support to actor Charisma Carpenter after she voiced the show’s creator, Joss Whedon, on Wednesday.
“Although I’m proud of my name associated with Buffy Summers, I do not want to be associated with the name Joss Whedon forever,” Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the protagonist of the vampire hunt, said in an Instagram post said.
“I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud that they have spoken out,” she said.
“Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying that,” added her costar Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn, the younger sister of Buffy Summers. “I’m brave enough now as a 35-year-old woman …. To put it again. Because. It has to. Be known. As a teenager. With his inappropriate behavior.”
“We know what he did,” she added in an Instagram story. “Behind the scenes.”
Other actors on Buffy also sent their support, including Amber Benson (Tara) and Clare Kramer (Glory).
In a Twitter post Wednesday, Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, accused Whedon of abusive and vengeful behavior towards her on set, especially while she was pregnant.
Carpenter said Whedon said she was “fat”, mocked her religious beliefs, had her shot late at night despite her pregnancy, and then fired her “without ceremony” as soon as she gave birth.
“Then I felt powerless and alone,” she said. “With no other option, I swallow the abuse and move on.”
Carpenter said she spoke out because she participated in a Warner Media investigation into Whedon’s behavior on the set of Justice League it was led by allegations by actor Ray Fisher of abusive behavior by Whedon. Carpenter said she believes Fisher.
Whedon’s representatives did not respond to a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
