Steph Curry is not the fifth NBA candidate for the MVP in ESPN’s first straw poll

Steph Curry is experiencing an incredible season.

The two-time NBA MVP averaged 29.6 points, 5.9 assists and 5.4 rebounds through 25 games, while shooting 48.7% overall and 42.9% from the 3-point range.

According to an ESPN headline, Curry is not currently a top five NBA MVP candidate.

He is not even in the top six.

Curry finished seventh after receiving one vote for first place, one vote for second place, one vote for third place, two votes for fourth place and eight votes for fifth place.

So yes – he first appeared on 13 of the 100 ballots.

“To make the mood as realistic as possible, there are at least two voters from each of the league’s 28 markets, as well as a cross-section of both national and international reporters,” writes Tim Bontemps. “As with the official NBA vote at the end of the season, voters were asked to cast a vote for five players, and the results are tabled according to the league’s points system: 10 points for every first place, followed by seven points for second, five points for third, three points for fourth and one point for fifth. ‘

LeBron James scored the most points, followed by Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo. All six guys have fantastic seasons and are valuable for their position.

But it’s clear Curry didn’t get a lot of love, especially since the Warriors (13-12) are in eighth place in the Western Conference.

But if you keep playing like that – and if Golden State starts winning more games, you better believe that the only unanimous MVP in NBA history will step up when the next straw attempt is announced.
