AZDHS updates its COVID-19 dashboard with additional vaccine data

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health Services on Tuesday released a new update to its COVID-19 dashboard, which provides more demographic data regarding the state’s vaccine efforts.

Health officials said the data shows the total number of vaccine doses administered, the total number of vaccines administered each day, the number of unique Arizonans receiving their first dose and the number of Arizonans with the completed range.

Information is also provided on the age, race, ethnicity and gender of those receiving the vaccine.

According to data from Tuesday afternoon, almost 50% of the vaccines were administered to the white population. Only eight percent were administered to the Spanish population and nearly two percent were administered to the black population. A section, which called nearly 40 percent of the people affected, ‘Other race / unknown’, was also part of the dashboard in Tuesday’s announcement.

Along with updating the dashboard, dr. Cara Christ, director of AZDHS, posted a blog outlining the phase approach of vaccine distribution and how the demographics according to the general population demographics are not expected yet.

“Due to the phased approach of vaccine distribution, the demographics presented here are not yet expected to be in line with the general population demographics,” said Dr. Cara Christ said. “For example, the age or race / ethnicity distribution among the health care worker population, category of protective services, and education and child care personnel is not the same as the distribution among the general population in Arizona.”

Dr. Christ added that the Department of Health expects the demographics to better match those of the general population as Arizona begins vaccination with Phase 1C and Phase 2 and 3.
