The businessman and ‘Breaking Barriers’ host, Inshan Ishmael, said a private autopsy for Andrea Bharatt revealed that the 23-year-old’s cause of death was a blunt trauma.
Ishmael said during a live video on Facebook earlier today that the private autopsy, which was paid for by him and two friends, showed that she had been hit on the head with a blunt object.
He said the autopsy was performed by pathologist Professor Hubert Daisley at Boodoo’s Funeral Home in Cunupia.
Ishmael tells News that he had not yet received permission to share the full autopsy report and said in the video that he was making arrangements to send the report to Bharatt’s family. He said that Mr. Bharatt was notified by Professor Daisley before he went live on Facebook.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the outcome of the first autopsy was unconvincing.
Bharatt’s body was found at the bottom of an abyss in Aripo Heights six days after she was taken by taxi on January 29 in Arima.
Two suspects, Andrew Morris and Joel Belcon, who were detained for questioning in connection with her kidnapping and death, died while under police guard in hospital.
According to police, Belcon has had more than 70 other cases on charges of rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment, robbery and aggravated robbery. At the time of his death, 45 of these cases were pending.
The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) said Morris and Belcon’s deaths were being investigated.
Officials found other remains near the place where Bharatt’s body was found, which were sent for testing.
Bharatt worked as a clerk at the Arima Magistrate’s Court.
Over the past few days, many across the Red House have gathered and asked for justice for her death.
