From Axl’s new era, Super stops to Nagoriyuki’s double-edged sword blood mechanic, four key takeaways from the latest Guilty Gear Strive showcase

A whole bunch of new Guilt Gear Strive recordings just took off yesterday when GameSpot released nine minutes of gameplay with Ky, Sol, Axl, Zato-1 and newcomer Nagoriyuki.

We’ve definitely noticed Ky Kiske’s new Dragon Install technique, but Rooflemonger gives details on these and three other notable takeaways from the showcase, one of which is an update on the way the brand new and vampire Nagoriyuki’s blood meter mechanic works.

The cybernetic vampire certainly has a lot of intrigue about him, because he’s one of Strive’s additions to the Guilty Gear franchise, and he has a unique mechanic who serves as a double-edged sword: his bloodimeter. This mate is filled throughout the course of the battle and gives the character turbo-charged abilities, but also continuously drains his life as it fills.

Rooflemonger points to a fairly large update from this mechanic compared to the little we’ve seen before, especially that the meter is gradually filling up unlike the kits. There’s a little more about this warrior as it’s used in the showcase, such as the possible properties of the activation sequence of its berserk mode, but we’ll let the creator of the content know there.

Another important point from the footage is the display of Axl Low’s new era that stops Super. The returning Guilty Gear character now has the ability to freeze his opponents in their place to get ready for a tough combination of his choice.

Of course, we only have one image that we can use in our analysis, but it seems like this Super needs to be in stock first before it is implemented in action. Axl advances the technique and creates a purple glow to indicate to him that it’s playing now (not anything other than M. Bison’s V-Skill 2 in Street Fighter 5), but activates it and freezes his enemy on any place on the screen.

During the footage, the maneuver is used while opponents of previous attacks have disappeared, leading us to speculate that Axl will not be able to activate and operate it at any time. Many enemies may block the freezer if they are not trapped in the middle of a combination, or recover in some sort of long boot or animation from one of their own attacks.
