New York man gets COVID-19 vaccine, dies shortly afterwards: official

A man in his seventies died Sunday in Manhattan, NY, shortly after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the state health commissioner.

According to Dr. Howard Zucker, New York State Health Commissioner, the elderly patient without a name collapsed as he left the Javits Center vaccination site.

Although safety and first reaction were on the man’s side within seconds, Zucker said the man died at the hospital shortly thereafter.

“The incident occurred about 25 minutes after he was vaccinated and after the required 15-minute period where he had no adverse reactions or any distress,” reads an email sent to Fox News. “Initial indications are that the man had no allergic reaction to the vaccine.”

It was not immediately clear what vaccine the man had received.

Zucker reiterated that the recently approved vaccines are safe, which is also the greater consensus among public health experts. The health commissioner said vaccines, mask use and social distance would help overcome the pandemic eventually.

“I encourage all New Yorkers to be vaccinated,” he said.
