Blizzard did not stop residents of Skippack, Montgomery County, from getting COVID vaccine

SKIPPACK, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – When heavy snow falls outside Skippack Fire Company in Montgomery County, Donna Mastrangelo waits longer than an hour in the freezing cold.

“I just wanted it because I’m tired of the isolation and everything,” said Mastrangelo, who celebrated her 73rd birthday getting the COVID-19 vaccine. For her, it was worth the wait and worth the elements.

“I wear a mask every day and we are limited, so this is something we really need to do,” her husband, Joe, said.

The fire department, along with the Skippack pharmacy, handed out a thousand doses to people who qualify in Phase 1a in Montgomery County.

“The community told me when I did a survey and asked them, ‘Do you really want to get out in the snow?’ Everyone said, ‘Even if you call me at 3 in the morning, I’ll be there in my pajamas,’ said Mayank Amin, who owns the pharmacy.

This is essentially what happened. This clinic came together in less than 36 hours. The pharmacy found out on Friday that it had received the vaccines. On Saturday night, it sent an email to anyone who expressed interest on the site.

“By five o’clock this morning, all the places were full,” Amin said.

Dressed like a Superman, Amin said he is proud that his independent pharmacy is trusted with these doses.

“Although I am dressed like a superhero today, my superheroes are the emergencies, all these health care professionals who have risked their lives every day for the past year to save their communities,” he said.
